49. the spotify conundrum (oh and i also made a guestbook please say hi)
do people still use spotify??
i personally have a like-hate relationship with it. for starters, i like how it's made music more accessible to me. i like that the library is huge, and how sorting music becomes very easy. i like that my friends share the music they're fond of on there, and i like that i can check out their playlists whenever i feel like it. i like that my partner's playlist is on there! i like the sharing aspect of it, pretty much. i've once made my partner a playlist consisting of songs that make me think of them, which was nice.
... anyway. notice how i didn't say love-hate? notice how there is no LOVE for this platform whatsoever?
well that's because i HATE SPOTIFY!!
i hate having to pay for subscriptions for anything EVER, and all that money doesn't even go to artists. in fact, it's an issue that has been talked about before countless of times by countless of people and sources, some of which include accounts from the actual underpaid artists themselves. spotify, overall, is a very dogshit company. constantly giving its userbase, artists, and workers the big "FUCK YOU" by replacing everything (workers and artists alike) with AI, making the most basic of services paid (paid lyric stuff is stupid), and did i already mention the underpaid artists? i'll say it again, if i have to!!
and if you're running on a free account, the ads are so unbearably in-your-face that i feel like it'd drive me insane.
maybe it's a little hypocritical of me. i am an advocate and frequent enjoyer of piracy, because living in the philippines of all places is hard enough financially. cut me some slack, please.
for a good few years now, i've been accessing spotify premium through means that... i won't delve too much into, for the golden rule of the seven seas is to NEVER publicly talk about where the secret treasures are at 🏴☠️...1 but yeah i technically had "premium" for free, up until a point last year where spotify started to track those means down. from there, i dusted up an old mp3 player my younger brother had lying around and decided to just go about making my own music library for funsies.
the music library in question: (not found)
... uh. so about that. i haven't been able to add to it much since then!2 my bad.
but yes, while my current collection only consists of a around 10 or fewer albums, i do feel some sort of pride in how i actually, on a technicality, own the music. some songs could be lost forever, and i'll still have them saved as a local file on my computer. and really, there's no limits to what i store on there... i guess it just takes a little more effort. lots of time too. i'm sad that i rarely have the time to.
it's also a little sad to imagine that if i ever want to share my playlist to my friends, they'd just scratch their heads and look at me funny when i say i don't have spotify. because duyyy, everyone has spotify you blockhead. i truly love playlists, and i will be honest: it's a little hard making them with a local library saved! sigh.
on the return of spotify 🏴☠️ and the siren song of coming back to convenience
earlier, i've just found out that the waters in my "usual means" of sailing the seas has become clear again. if you know what i mean. i am very happy to be able to steal from this dogshit company yet again, but now i'm wracking my head on how to integrate my music library habits into my older spotify habits...
i'm thinking of just using the latter for purely playlists and sharing for friends (and my most beautiful partner), all while keeping my personal library of mp3 files to myself. maybe i'll even use spotify as a sampler for when i want a sneak peek of an album i'm interested in downloading. i don't know how to go about this, honestly.
i can't and don't want to abandon the idea of having my personal music library close to me, that is for sure. maybe i'll find a good balance eventually. one thing's certain though: i do not want to give spotify a single cent.
in other news: the guestbook!
well, so much for that wahaha!! hey, hey do you want to comment on my blog but are too shy to email me? i made a GUESTBOOK for anyone to write on!! :3 i'll start including it in my posts... maybe even put it on my blog's navigation. i'm a little shy about it, but it always makes me happy to receive things from people and know that someone is out there reading my thoughts..!! i usually keep to myself a LOT, so this blog is sort of one of my only outlets. hehehe...
no pressure! this is really just a side thing from the main point of this blog. now excuse me, i will go download a car some music. sail safe out there, mateys. 🏴☠️
